Business PowerHour will be held February 20th from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Lunch and Networking at 11:30 a.m. and the presentation begins at 11:45 a.m. Our Guest Speakers are Jonathan Mize, M.A. CRC Regional Business Relations Coordinator and Giovanne M. Turincio, MRC, CRC Community Outreach & Awareness Specialist, both with the Texas Workforce Commission Vocational Rehabilitation Services. TOPIC: "Disability Awareness in the Workplace:  What's in it for you?"

Come learn and explore ways to use “people first language” and discover some foundational tips for communicating, assisting, and serving individuals as both customers and employees. You will leave this presentation equipped with awareness tips for disability categories in the areas of vision, hearing, physical, autism spectrum, and cognitive disabilities.

  1. The importance of "person first language" when addressing an individual with a disability
  2. Disability awareness tips and scenario exercises for working with individuals with a disability
  3. How to work with both visible and invisible disabilities in a customer scenario and in a work environment

Jonathan Mize is a married father of 3 and a Texas panhandle native with over 26 years of work experience with a variety of public sector agencies including Texas Workforce Solutions Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, Texas Commission for the Blind, Texas Rehabilitation Commission, DARS-Division for Rehabilitation Services, a former advisory board member for the Brazos Valley Center on Disability and Development and currently serving as the Regional Business Relations Coordinator with the Texas Workforce Commission Vocational Rehabilitation Services. 

Giovanne Turincio received her undergrad from Texas A&M University in Speech Communications and Political Science along with a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from The University of Kentucky. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor with over 18 years of experience working with Vocational Rehabilitation and currently serving as a Community Outreach and Awareness specialist with the Texas Workforce Commission Vocational Rehabilitation Services.
