LEAD - Welcome to the Real World (Day 1)

Description

Students will visit 5 stations:

1. Education Tables (MCC, Tarleton, TSTC and Class 101) - learn the difference between public/private schools, community college/certificate programs. Grants vs. loans vs. scholarships. Pell Grant and FAFSA, preparing for additional expenses (books, housing, application fees).

2. Career Table - hear from the Heart of Texas Workforce Solutions about local career opportunities.

3. Budgets - learn from Patillo, Brown and Hill about personal budgets, money management, charitable giving, filing taxes, filing out a W4, benefits (insurance (health, vision, dental), 401K, PTO, sick time) hourly vs. salary, understanding your paycheck.

4. Banking - learn the difference between checking & savings, credit vs. debit, credit scores, balancing your statement, online banking (safeguards)

5. Goal Setting

At the end of this event students will complete a questionnaire where they will provide information including what their post high school plans are and their dream school if they plan to continue their education. these answers will be used on Day 2.
